Snow, cold and wind has been my companions on the daily routines. Christmas came and went away, leaving the usual feeling of emptiness; nothing to look forward to but january, february and march, and somewhere far ahead a new Spring. What about summer? No, not really. Warm or rainy; flies; mosquitos; a long list of things to do, but not enough time. Summer can wait, spring is the time to ride out in the newly green forest, lapping up what little sun there is and actually savoring it. Not warm enough to sweat, but not cold enough to freeze.
Let's skip summer and go straight to the Fall. Days are cooler but still light enough; flies, yes, but fewer and slower with each passing day; trees eventually turning yellow, red and brown. Still grazing for the horses; still no need to remove ice from the water barrels; still no need for rugs. Pure life. Pure Arcadia.
But those Arcadian days may never come, so I'll continue to live here, in the present. And the present is a grey and dreary day.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of trying out a few saddles for my horse. Nothing decided yet, but I believe that one of them will sit between me and my horse come spring. It's been eight months since the last time we rode out. Didn't want to rush things; needed Lord to put on new muscles, and he's been to my ET for two treatments.
Bootless, soon treeless and hopefully bitless some time this summer. We continue to reduce, take things down another notch; back to natural, if such a thing is at all possible for a horse carrying a rider. I'll ask Lord how he feels about it.
Hopefully I'll hear his answer.
